I just bought my first ever bonsai pot.

Looks cool 👍
Are you going to use it as a pot holder?
Root growth under the lip might hinder tree removal for maintenance.
Huh. That's actually a good point. Hmmm. I might do that. Thank you for pointing out the obvious. I'm a bit obtuse at times. 😁

Um. That pot looks like it’s a death trap for a tree. The lip id as said too pronounced and will get in the way. Repotting what ever goes in there will be quite a challenge if the roots mass grows under the lip (which it will)

Also the walls is the pot look pretty thin which means it could be easily breakable particularly when repotting

Can’t see if there are drainage holes but if there aren’t your tree will die. You will also ah e to have wiring holes in the bottom as well that you can pass anchor wire through to hold the tree in place .

FWIW Sticking with traditional pots at first can be more effective with the tasks of bonsai work. Unconventional pots are fine but present unique problems and can end up being a pain in the butt

Just wait… the best is just to come!

Most folks on this site have more pots then underwear!

Either you guys have a lot of underwear, or this is an understatement. For some of you, each of your trees has more potential pots lying around than I have underwear.

It would still be a good pot for kusamono or something.

I only really have 2 cheap Chinese pots. One came with my BC I got from California Bonsai Studio, and one that came with my Pomegranate.

Luckily for me, I have more than 2 pairs of skivvies! 🤣

Once my trees start getting ready for bonsai pots, I'll be looking for some cool ones.

I have many, many pots, but only 6 bonsai pots, and they are some sort of plastic-esque material for training. Nothing against any of you, but whether I have more or less than 6 undies is between me and my jeans.

Fwiw, I like the pot, but I definitely agree that it would almost be a single-use vessel. Between the thin walls and the deep lip, getting the roots out without breaking the pot or damaging the roots seems unlikely.

I didn't realize the problems with the pot until posting here. I messaged the seller and asked him the hole's measurements and explained that I was going to slip a pot in and he actually offered to widen the hole.

Will it improve it? Dunno. But I still love the pot. And I think I can make it work, albeit with some jerry-rigging.
