HUGE Ficus microcarpa

Are you sure that you want to leave so many branches coming out of that same spot? It looks pretty clustered, but it might just be the angle.

There are no multiple branch spots, just bad camera angles. I thinned out the branches and actually ended up losing some.

I thought I was having bad spider mite issues this summer, but I slowly realized I really just had spider issues, which really isn't an issue. It can be hard to tell the difference sometimes.

Chopped off half of this guys roots and moved him into an Anderson flat today:

Looks good. I bet with the root pruning and repotting you'll see a surge of new growth on the top. Are you still using that premade nursery mix, Ryan?

Is there anyone down south (and when I say down south, I mean down south where it's warm enough for this tree to stay outdoors year round) that would be interested in taking this tree off my hands? I really do think it's a bit too large to be kept indoors under fluoros, so if anyone down south wanted to take this guy off my hands, I'd gladly sell it if the price is right. PM me if interested.

Let me know if you don't have any takers and you're still looking to sell it...

Hey you're not down south, you're right next door to me ;)

Just trying to give you options. This guy would love to hang out with some other fat bottomed ficus at my place. This tree is screaming to be a spectacular banyan.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, perhaps go to a zero nitrogen fertilizer for the cooler indoor months - just my play on it but we have a lot of those for well over 15 years up here.

It's more than likely just TOO much neem. I applied it three weeks in a row, probably overdoing it. I took some leaves in to the local nursery and they didn't see any bugs or fungus, so it's most likely just too much oil. I gave the tree a shower and will put it back into its home once it dries off.

I must say, none of my indoor leaves are coming out right this season. I had a mite issue early and now I think it might also be the neem, but even the leaves that start out nice and red come out extra pale or even shrivel and drop. It is pretty disappointing considering how productive my indoor season was last year for the tropicals. Part of it might be the new house. I think the gas heat is making the air dryer here. And then you either have dry air or have to lock in the humidity too tight for proper exchange. I was wondering though, would neem residue cause any issues with those predator mites you linked to before? Or is the neem just a contact killer and a non issue once it is dried?

When you use predatory mites, the neem can't be applied within a certain amount of days before you release the predators, I believe you have to not apply it for a week or so. The neem kills the eggs and the mites on contact, which is why you wouldn't want to apply it while the predators are going to town. While the neem does dry, it leaves the leaves sticky and clogs up the pores of the leaves if you use too much, causing the leaves to yellow and drop.

I don't know if it's just luck, but I didn't have any issues with bugs or leaf drops last year or that beginning of this year. I wish I knew what was being done righ , I'd let you all know.

I've stuck the tree into an ICU I whipped up today, and the tree is still pushing growth, so we'll see.
