Hi,

My Ficus is currently in recovery, lost a lot of roots and was pruned heavily week or two ago.
The tree is growing in a very messy way, and I'm not sure how to approach it.

The first image is what I would like to be the front of the tree.
The back of the tree I would like to be almost non existent, because my tree is on a windowsill, and I don't want the stems or leaves to touch the window.

Any tips what to do with it? Perhaps make some cuts and turn it into more trees?
In spring I plan to also air layer the base to make it way shorter.

Better get another fig. Ginseng isnt very good for bonsai

I've seen them being transformed to real bonsai.

And I will get more trees anyway.

Best repotting time for ficus is the height of summer when it is very hot. Pruning roots now in autumn isn't as effective particularly if the tree is inside the house. Summer repotting works better because ficus is tropical and loves heat. Bottom heat at the roots speeds root reproduction and recovery.

Your shaping and top pruning depends on a vigorous root mass. As things are now, you're going to have to wait to do anything. That wait will probably last until spring/summer next year. You weakened the tree. It needs time to recover.
