hose end sprayer

I regularly feed with a Miracle-Gro sprayer.

I have tried so many of they from cheep to expensive, the only thing I have not tried is a fertilizer injector. I found them to be poor at best. It was my hope I could fertilize ever time I watered. There are two problems first the organic (I do not use inorganics on my Bonsai only on stuff I am growing/per per bonsai) don't last once mixed second the sprayers do not meter it the way I was hopping. I think the best way is whit a backpack sprayer. I mix a tank take the defuser off and water my trees like that. I do have a fairly larger collection maybe 40 bonsai so it does take some time but worth it in the long run I think. I also use tea bags to ...

Not what I meant. I do have a Dram nozzle when I'm just watering the trees. I was looking for something like this - https://www.ortho.com/en-us/products/insect-control/ortho-dial-n-spray-hose-end-sprayer - where you can water and apply a liquid fertilizer at the same time. Rather than adding the liquid fertilizer to a watering can and then watering the trees.
Doh!
... to apply liquid fertilizer
:(

That is by far the best way to apply, not one plant needs foliar fertilizer, ever... Also keep in mind it is best to fertilize liquid at least 15 - 20 minutes after watering for best/efficient results...

well, that goes against everything I learned in greenhouse work. the last manager I worked with would let plants dry out before feeding.

Gary, I have one of those hose end sprayers (I think it may be the exact one you linked to) and I don't really like it. I mean, it works - it dispenses fertilizer (though I don't know how accurate the rate is) but I don't like the limited spray pattern options it has. It doesn't produce a nice spray like a standard watering wand.

I have about 100 trees in various states of development and I still do my fertilizing (every week or so) with a watering can. It really doesn't take all that long. Sometimes during the summer I'll set up my EZ-FLO system (you can google it) which is a siphon system that provides a steady, low-level rate of fertilization with each watering (you set it up with the tank right at the faucet). But I still supplement with either organics in tea bags or liquid in a watering can.

Personally I like to water the trees well before hitting them with the liquid fertilizer. I don't know if it makes much difference.

Yes, I agree. My intention is not to spray the foliage.

I'm looking for something that will water the soil similar to a watering can but can be hooked up to a hose to add a little fertilizer to the water as it gets sprinkled out. Does that make sense??? :)

I got that miracle grow hose attachment with the little detachable barrel under....~3 waterings it was completely empty. Seems uneven and shitty, but was a hell of a lot faster than the slow dunk of organic I did before.
I got this Jobe’s organic thinking I would top-dust, and I opened it today...smells so good...so good nasty..
I didn’t do it, because I am afraid every critter in the land will to be literally digging into the stank. We have the gambit of animals..should test it in a pot with dead tree...

Hi Gary,
Unsure if you have tried MAZZEI venturee (search for this brand fert injector). Basically you have a bucket of concentrated liquid fertilizer in a bucket, and the venturee sucks the fert out of bucket into your hoseline, then you can use your Dramm wand/nozzle and out comes your fert via hose. Just needs a small bit of DIY plumbing so from out of your tap (faucet??) you attach the venturee first via a couple of ball valves, and the water pressure sucks the fert etc. You may need a filter also so venturee doesn’t block up if using organic ferts.
I can do photo if still in dark.

Thanks Charles. That is the idea I'm looking for.

The MAZZEI venturi looks to be the same idea as the EZ-FLO system that Chris mentioned. The EZ-FLO is the complete system whereas with the MAZZEI venturi you're putting together your own custom system.

I tried a hozon which I think is similar to the mazzei. It didn't work for me because (I think) of low water pressure. But it seems to be an almost ideal solution if you have enough water pressure, as it draws continuously from a bucket and the rate of fertilizer being delivered stays constant. In contrast, the EZ-FLO system continuously dilutes the fertilizer concentration because it works by putting water into the tank to force out the solution. So as you use it, the concentration of fertilizer being delivered gradually decreases.

One thing to be aware of if you do go with an EZ-FLO, they recommend that you not leave the system pressurized for long periods (in between use). Mine actually sprung a leak in the top part and I had to replace it. Now I make sure to run the pressure out of the hose after shutting off the faucet. This wouldn't be an issue with the type of set up that @markyscott uses since it is a drip/irrigation system.

Hi Gary,
I agree that there is a similarity between the 2 injectors as they both withdraw from a bottle/bucket.
But I think as @coh suggests they are completely different systems.
One (Mazzei $20 NZD thru China) withdraws fert from a bucket so eventually the bucket empties. Other system works like a diluting system where unless you have a soluble salts meter (EC or ppm) to check the strength of your solution you have no idea when you’re just watering with water.
