Hi everyone,

So this Holly Tree had to be cut down today at work and I wanted to rescue some limbs and branches and a small bush. What are the chances of this growing into bonsai potential?

Any next steps? From what I understand, air layering would’ve been appropriate but this was a sudden chop and there just wasn’t time and I am not yet confident in my abilities. I did put the ends into some rooting powder as that is what I had at my disposal today.

I think the branch is too big for the pot they are currently in as it is unsteady. If roots were to grow, that would obviously help anchor the tree correct?, but could I try to wire the base.

I have some 14 gage wire from work I could try as well just to secure the tree. Any helpful tips are much appreciated.

Worth a try, right? In my belief, Yaupon holly don't take from thick cuttings like that, but just keep it watered and warm, and who knows!
