Hold on to your hat!!!

Glad to hear you're OK down there.

It's been a wild start to spring, hasn't it? After the warmest February on record, March came in like the proverbial lion. On the first we had a windstorm with 60 mph gusts that caused some minor damage. Then on the 8th the "big one" hit - a 6 hour windstorm that produced hurricane force wind gusts that peaked at 81 mph at the Rochester Airport. Thousands of power lines and trees went down, hundreds of power poles snapped. Roads were blocked for days. I think at the peak over half the utility customers in the county were without power (over 100,000). Several lines went down on the road next to ours and we were without power for a little over 4 days. Of course, during that period the coldest weather of the winter came in, with temps staying in the teens plus 40-50 mph wind gusts for two days. We had abandoned most of our house (where temps had dropped into the upper 30s) for a single room with a small gas heater.

Then the day after our power was restored, a two day blizzard hit that produced 26" of snow.

On the plus side, the recent cool/damp/dark weather has helped keep most of my trees dormant but they are starting to wake up so...lots to do.

And yes...this year we are getting a generator! LOL, been talking about that for the 13 years we've been here. Not going through this again.
Hey, Chris, good to here from you... sounds like you've had your hands full with the weather, too.

Glad to hear you made it through safely dave.

So, we made it thru both rounds of storms yesterday unscathed. I learned this morning from my kids' principal that 5 minutes before pickup on Monday they'd been given the all clear. About 2 minutes into pickup, she got calls and texts from the district to immediately seek shelter ...and to allow parents to come inside too. She later learned that a tornado had been confirmed less than half a mile from there. I drove by there today and there were several HUGE trees uprooted and lots of them twisted off halfway up.

I'm glad nobody was hurt ...and that my 4 kids were oblivious to the danger that was nearby.

That's just too freaking close for comfort.

Wow Chris, I was wondering if you got hit by all that bad string of storms. Glad to hear you made it thru, and trees hadn't started to move.
