Worked on a Hinoki I got from local nursery. It is grafted and plan to do some deadwood in trunk next year. Hopefully didn’t remove too much foliage but was quite a lot.

I think you did pretty well. Might want to think about jinning some of the lower branches, but it's just an option. Decent form already.

Thanks I figured Would definitely Jin a few that I left bark on and could do others after seeing how it does.
 
I suggest you take a little time to remove the soil on top and dig down until you find the primary roots. You might find out that you have a couple of inches of trunk below the soil level. As for the graft it may get larger with time and create an unsightly mounded mass as I have seen on many European hinokis. Jonas Dupuich has several blog entries on his website where he did this and found both trees he had bought were grafted so he attempted to air layer them above the swelling. Not sure what final success he had doing that.

Yeah I left first branch long in case it’s lower too. Figured will find out more at repot time and adjust accordingly
