looking for an American elm. Could it be .

Leaves opposite means can't be elm. Elms are alternate
 
Any mature trees nearby that might give a clue?
 
Sort of looks like tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissima) to me.

If it smells like peanut butter when the stems are broken, then that's what it is. They are very invasive and I find them all the time growing in areas like fence lines, disturbed areas, forest edges, etc.

Broke a stem off did not smell like peanut butter.Thanks For the reply!
 
While we’re at it one more tree to ID. Forget the first one. With all the replies it definitely is not a Elm! Ok I Have lots of these around the house.Growing I know this is elm. But What kind. I’ve done Google searches but, I have fallen short.

I don't think it is an Elm...... I don't quite understand your last post.... can you clarify?

There should be a range of sizes next to a scale. And, how big are the mother trees?
