I'll bash any and all businesses who offer lousy service, cheat, steal, or mislead.
The only difference between this and the butcher who sells rancid meat is the amount of people who know you can't eat rancid meat.
Just because fewer people don't know privet belongs outside, doesn't somehow give him a pass to cheat and mislead people.
If he is one of the people that doesn't know privet belongs outside.....let me ask you a question.....
Do you think it is safe to allow someone who is not a surgeon operate on your internals?

Definitely worth saving.
I have a theory that says nothing, not even repotting, is as damaging to a tree as confusion. Confusion defined as working outside of its natural rythym.
This tree is suffering from confusion...
Indoors, packed, took to elevation, brought back in, outside in this smoky North American sky....
The best cure for confusion is water and sun alone!
Singing it the Canadian National anthem wouldn't hurt for it to get back into rythym either!
Some contact with Canadian soil, let it speak to the locals via the myc chain!

Can confirm that there are privets in Montreal! Most of my neighbours are using them as hedges!

They also offer a lot of classes (from beginner to very advanced stuff), but they can be a bit pricey.
As for nurseries, there is a big one on the island called Jardin Jasmin: ( http://www.jardinjasmin.com/ ) , which I love to visit (it's not a bonsai nursery, but you can find a lot of useful stuff there such as bonsai substrate (akadama, turface and kanama) , wiring, tools etc..).
If you want bonsai specific places, you need to go a bit further (but we're talking only ~1h or so outside of the city):

Great, thank you all for so much information... One thing I wanted to ask about that I didn't read any info on in the replies: Should I threat these small spots on yellowing leaves? Are they a parasite as the shop has told me, also, this algae on the soil, Nostoc I believe, should I also try and get rid of it... If so how? THANKS!!!! I'm learning, I'm learning bare with me!

One thing no one seems to have mentioned - the soil. The soil looks extremely bad - heavy loamy soil that is compacted. It is not the time of year to repot, but I would at the minimum make sure the drain holes were clear and take a chopstick and try to create air pathways in the root ball.

LOL, I use same pumps to water all my (150) trees. No way to use any other thing in household and on my balconies. There's no difference in what you use for watering...if it provides fine spray. Only how you water matters.
BTW, what privet species did you buy and we're talking about? L. japonicum, sinensis, vulgare, ovalifolium...?

Well, yellowing and thinning leaves....sounds a bit like autumn. Here in NM many of the 'softer' decids (privet, box elder, VA creeper) are already turning. You're in Canada? Oh yeah, there's some acclimation to be done.

FWIW I bought a privet (nursery stock) recently (from the scratch & dent pile, because I'm cheap). I cut it back very hard and it took several weeks to throw off new sprouts. Just sayin'. Now it's been pushing sprouts all over. It's outdoors too.
