Help! Dark spot on bark

Hi. I noticed a dark spot on my japanese maples trunk that I dont recall haven seen before.
Should I be worried or is it probably nothing?

Tree had a lot of rootwork done this spring and has sprouted nicely. Its a benichidori and I am very fond of the tree as it was my first bonsai.

Looks like a callus spot to me. Callus is the tree healing over a gouge/cut with cambium. It’s a good thing if that what it is. With the extensive root work it might have gotten a knock or accidental knick from a tool or from the handling
