Hello tree shrinkers

Never say never, just look what Adam L. does with them...

I think his method is sound enough, you just need years. A ugly ginseng will eventually grow out of it. I put mine in a big pot after taking cuttings and stuff and it is growing well. I'll leave it be in thrip corner for a few years and see where it is at.

@Bonsaihead Your in a good state to start bonsai. Got about a 10-11 month grow year (read 2x more time to grow than the majority of the rest of the country) and little worry about that white stuff that falls from the sky. o_O

Check out if you havent already www.bonsai-bsf.com for information about clubs and activities going on near you. Theres only about 20 some clubs in Florida, so take your pick.

And welcome to crazy as source would say.:p

That's awesome! Another reason I love this state lol Very excited! Good to know and thanks for the input. I was wondering and interested in finding some groups. Saves me from one more question I don't have to ask now. Thanks!

Here is a radical suggestion. Ficus grow very well from root cuttings. I suggest choosing the large root and treating it like an extension of the lower end of the trunk. Cut the other two roots as close to the trunk as possible, then separate the root mass into three parts. The one with the large root attached to the trunk will become a tree with a big bend in the lower trunk, you might change the planting angle. Pot up the other two roots separately and let them grow new tops. Three trees from one!

Of course I am just looking at photos, and in person some other idea may be better. Making new trees out of unwanted roots is the general idea.

Yes, the two smaller roots may be fused enough already to make a believable lower trunk. This would give you the same effect. If you let the top grow freely, the roots will fuse more.

And yes, this would need to be done in spring when ficus in Florida are beginning fast growth. Here in Dallas that would be late May or early June, earlier for you.
