Any experience with comparison of these two. I'm looking for pellets to bury in the soil as my bullmastiff puppy can't stay out of my trees with the cakes I made. I am also trying to sprinkle those with cayanne pepper and possibly make a batch including cayanne to see if this deters dogs like it can with other critters.

Any differences in smell between these two? Dr Earth is cheaper I believe. I don't mind replacing the top 1" of soil here and there rather than have tea bags all over distracting my view.

Looks so innocent and loves the poo cakes. Yum (she just gained 5 more pounds since I started this post...or she ate the Egyptian Mau cat. Lol :)

I want one of those so bad. Not the fertilizer stuff. I use miracle grow. I'm talking Bull Mastiff man! Ever since my daughter got an English Mastiff and German Shepherd mix. Mastiff dogs are just cool.

Maybe you should let the pup eat the fertilizer cakes you made, then use the cakes the dog makes on your trees:confused:. Just kidding! I stopped using cakes partially because of my bull mastiff...good luck!

Cute pup...something to consider...teaching the command "leave it" best command I can think of. It teaches them they aren't allowed to mess with something and they best find something else. I taught mine by redirecting after the command was given. Then follow through with praise.

My shepherd also loves the cakes/dr earth. I found cutting up small pieces of bird netting, and clump it on top of the pot. Not the prettiest, but it works. Alternative is to get everything up high enough so he can't get into it.

I used green dream earlier this spring and summer, but stopped. I haven't nailed it down for certain but I noticed larder bettles on my trees for the first time ever when I used the green dream, and they always were on the fertilizer. Since I stopped using it no more beetles. Maybe I got a bag that had eggs in it or something. I have been using cakes since July and no more issues.

I have a fence around my garden that keeps the lab out, but whenshe gets a chance she goes for the cakes, but then again she atemall my tes bags last summer.

The smell will be there no matter what.
Rather than leave the stuff about, to be stolen by whatever critter it might be, I make a tea.
You can use your favorite what ever it might be, I make a mix these days, and water it in frequently.

Some of the ingredients I have been using of late are ( not a recipe) fish emulsion, Chickity Doo Doo, cakes of Green Dream(i think), whatever typical chem fert I have around, and an occasional squirt of a liquid compost ripe with those hummate thingy's.

I'll mix a batch and let it dissolve and brew, then give the plants in need a drink. Done frequently it's cakes without many of the problems. You don't get the layer of dissolved muck that needs to be raked out as a benefit. On the down side, Oooooo Doggy! does it smell.

I do believe it is important to, at the very least, have them off the ground in some manner, it draws lines the dogs can understand better.

Thanks. Rob was telling me about making the solution (tea) as well. If my dog goes for my trees with the Green Dreeam mixed in the soil then I'll try the tea. Funny story, I put cayenne pepper on a fertilizer cake I made and she gobbled it up. Apparently I have a cajun Bull Mastiff!! At least someone in my house likes spicy foods as well. :)

Something about fert and dogs...
But that link that Grim put in there is a great tool, the pet convincer is a humane correction device. It makes a sound like that of an air compressor spray does. Dogs just immediately stop the behavior when they hear that near them. My dogs no longer pull me into the dog park!!! Even if I just have it in my pocket, they know that they aren't getting away with anything. And they do learn to attach the sound to things they should stay away from with a little practice.
Good luck,
who's a good boy!:)

Oh, btw, I use Portland rose society fert. Great stuff, good price!

Sometimes I add a little Texas Surprise to the fertilizer cakes. I'm not sure if it helps, but it makes me feel better!

I use Green Dream and have a large dog, he sniffed at first but really shows no interest now.
It's been a few years and he hardly notices the trees. Squirrels how ever seem to be attracted to it and tend to nibble at a tree here and there. Hope that helps.

Well only day#1 but she likes the Green Dream better than the cakes....figures. Will have to try making the 'tea' with Green Dream. Maybe she will be less attracted to the pellets after a week or so if the smell dissipates.

The pet controller is on its way in the mail too!
