Flowers 2025

Oh, we’re doing Orchids? I can share.

This one has a back story. My daughter and I went to visit Fred Clark’s nursery in Escondido Ca and he gave me some new orchid hybrids he has recently cultivated for my birthday. Since they were new, none had ever flowered yet. When this one started producing black flowers, he asked me to send pictures every week. He was more excited than I was. The third picture was the last one I sent him once it was fully open. I ask him if I could name it and he said absolutely since I was the first to bloom it. I named it for my daughter, Kelly. It’s registered with the international Horticultural Society in London. We’re talking serious dad points here. She still keeps it. Fourth picture is from Fred’s web site for Sunset Valley Orchids. Every time her hybrid is used to produce new orchids, her name will always be the Grex in the hybrids name. Her presence in the orchid world is growing.

Man, black flowers are cool enough, but naming it after your daughter is a seriously amazing gift

I was just looking through the Columbus Bonsai Society website, and I noticed that this tree was mentioned a lot, classes on styling... you know.

So... even though I don't remember ever hearing about it, I'm guessing it would make a good tree to bonsai in my zone... what do you think?
