First Night Below 60F

No I have grow lights also, just haven't got them set up yet. I was hoping to not have to bring them in yet. I'll finish up this weekend. Just a bit worried about temps in the 30's predicted.
So your lights are going to be touching the plants? I see the 2nd and bottom tiers are not very tall so I am curious how your lights are going to be setup.

They are strip lights zip tied to the shelves. The won't touch the plants. And they don't get hot. Used them last year, no problems.

Trying to get away from the red/blue ones. I can't seem to get the link to work. 🤷‍♀️

Quoting Jerry,"You will get advice from southern growers who will tell you that they don't until temps get way lower. Their growing conditions are totally different than growers in the north who must move their plants indoors for a large part of the year."

I can't find the exact post. But the above touches on why northerners protect sooner with milder temps than Florida protects. Acclimating to indoor temps... I have heard him also say protect at 60F. But he said his own he never allows to go below 65F. So I feel that, is my goal. For he apparently feels its important to keep his above 65F. Mine never sulk, or drop leaves transitioning in or outside.

Again quote ,"I find that even though my indoor growing conditions are very good with high intensity lighting and temperatues that stay above 65F."
I have and have read Jerry's most recent book. It's a great resource if you're really in to Ficus. I'm certain he's said that because of his location/how far north he is/local weather that his trees stay inside year round.

But I see the sense of bringing them in sooner, for those of us we nice enough summers that we get to grow outside.

I thought they were both monstrera. My Philo died when we remodeled.

Learn something new every day! Thanks!

All back out again. Been out since that day but will come in this Friday for one night and out again. Might be pushing November with the trops outside for the first time. View attachment 334482
I swore once they were in, they were in. But we had a warm week and I thought it was worth it to get them back in the sunshine. So I caved.

Mine are still out. Only had to bring them in for a couple of nights.

Contemplating moving them into the basement permanently for the winter this weekend although that might change when I see the temperatures for next week.

We've been on vacation for a few days and it's been in the 80's, so no worries. BUT it's supposed to be 31 degrees tomorrow morning, so I had to scurry to get everything inside tonight after we got home. I didn't have time to get the new lights up or anything put on their shelves, so my kitchen looks like a haphazard nursery at the moment.

Die-back makes for an aged appearence. Or something..

If it was just a dip to frost you might just see a lot of leaves & young trigs popping off, but regrowth from older branches and the trunk.

Mine had a last partial day out last Saturday. In the afternoon the wind was strong enough to blow the soil out of the pots, so they came in early. My ficus and F'inTea seem happy in an east facing window with LED light to extend the photo period.

F'in tea hahaha LOL!!!
My F'in tea's may finally be numbered after 15 years or so!

Was predicted to go below 40 last night but got to about 42 at around 4AM.
I brought the tropicals into the garage last night.
Tonight is supposed to be in the 40s. The rest of the week looks ok with lows in the 50s and highs in the 60s and I could leave them out.

I decided to give them all a trim and brought them all down to the basement. I figure its only gona be another week or so before they are going to have to come in anyway so this crosses that off the list and I can worry about other fall/winter prep instead of having to do the dance with the trops.
