Field Grown JBP

I sprayed copper fungicide as I see signs of needlecast. The seller did warn me about it. Since the candels haven’t extended yet, I hope I am Okay.
I read Adair’s thread about needle cast and ordered Bonide Infuse. None of my other pines have ever had needlecast but I sprayed them anyway to prevent spread. Fingers crossed.

It’s better to err on the safe side. Needle cast has (in the past) taken some of my trees.

Thank you! I thought so too!

Should I soak the tree until it’s dripping or just mist it? Any side effect if too much gets in the soil?

Just spray it. Try not to have it so wet it’s dripping.

Added a turn table to the bottom so I can turn it easily.F5F9109C-01E5-4CBB-BF13-B753CB439B82.jpeg

Nice jbp material. I need to check this grower out in North Georgia. Does he have a website or contact info you can share? I really like that Stewartia you got!

He told me someone bought all the stewartia he had so it is going to take another 5-10 years to get the new ones to good sizes.

Candles are finally extending!

That's a happy looking pine! If you haven't yet, get some solid fertilizer on the soil surface- Plantone or hollytone placed in small containers with holes in their bottom works great- to augment your feeding. Pump it up now for further recovery and to fuel the eventual styling it needs.

Thanks. I have been feed fish emulsion but no solid organic yet. I do have some slow release osmocote in there though.

Dang that is disappointing. Your stewartia looks great though. Does it have any major scaring on the trunk?

I don’t see any. But if it grows well this year, I will make some cuts towards the top for taper and movement and that will cause some big scars.

So after 3 months, I finally moved the family to Orlando FL, along with this pine.
The temperature here will be above 50F starting next week it looks like. Does spring really start this early here? It didn’t really cool down until December…

Some branches died during the fall. Maybe they didn’t get enough sunlight? I cleaned up the dead needles and branches. Hopefully it thrives here. After all, this is the sunshine state!

Took some time to clean up one side of the tree today. There were a ton of dead branches, twigs and needles. It is so much cleaner now. I will do it to the other side next week after rotating.

@Brian Van Fleet
How is your pine doing? Do you see a lot of dead twigs inside?
It’s doing good, I haven’t done anything to it yet so it’s getting imbalanced. Needs to be repotted, but I’m not motivated to wrestle with it yet.
Mine did what yours is doing a couple years ago, just clean it out good and trim whorls back to pairs of branches and it will be fine.

Thanks! Glad to know I am on track. I plan to observe this year and de-candle if it continues to grow strongly. I want to keep the lower branches alive so can’t let the top run rampant

And you need some muscle to repot that beast of yours!
