Ficus microcarpa root is oozing but not squishy

My ficus microcarpa has been with me indoors for five years, and has survived some harrowing issues, but this is new and worrying. In October, I was away most of the month, and asked my roommate to look after it. They overwatered it, a lot. When I got back, its leaves were all gone and the roots had overgrown through the drainage holes in the bottom of the pot, and then I had to stick it in a box and mail it from Colorado to Illinois. Remarkably, it's been springing back to life quite well and sprouting lots of new leaves. But it's been oozing from one of its above-ground roots, and I'm becoming concerned. The ooze is faintly greenish-brown and has a vaguely pine-y scent, which from what I've read indicates root rot. However, the root's quite firm, and root rot is supposed to be squishy. I've got no idea where to even start looking for answers, nor what to do - with root rot you're supposed to cut back the squishy wood until you find firm live wood, but there is no squishy wood to cut back. What do I do? Help!

Hey, looks like you are in the clear. Lots of light, ease up on the water and you will probably be ok. I can't tell if you have a grow light but if you do, keep it close to the plant. Like a few inches away.

I think it is like bacteria under the bark, which might be rare for a ficus. Keep the vigor as best you can, don't take any cuttings trying to save what's left.
