Fall 2017 contest anyone?

Not many threads in the contest section.
Trying to decide which crappy tree I'm gonna enter. Should be fun.

I will just be watching this one.
It's just too late for me to get something to work with and whatever work I do would be done too late for my climate.
A contest starting in the spring would be better anyways. More material to be found. And work can be done at the proper time. With better aftercare available.

Hmm so lets do another contest in spring lol

I'm thinking about throwing in a Bolivian Chili pepper plant that I've been working on this year...

Nice we got some people joined already

its about showing progression/improvement
pick your material with that in mind

My second entry is in shambles, I was positive they had what I was looking for two weeks ago but today nothing. They had similar material to what I was after but it would of had to be cut back too much which as you say needs to be kept in mind for styling purposes.
I don't really have a back up plan either.

You will come up with something!

Maybe you can score a spruce somewere if the holiday tree's go up for sale

Hmm, if I do get a spruce then you know it is a last minute panic buy. :D
Not really into conifers unless they are weird really. I'll probably give the JBP contest a miss even. Great idea but meh, pines. lol

Saw a nice rosemary, bit pricey though. I don't know but something will turn up I'm sure.

I'm not getting this contest at all.
We get a tree,do something to it,and put it away for the winter? Then in the spring we take a picture to see if it made it?
They won't have grown a bit. Might even die.
It doesn't make any sense to me.
I'll vouch for @Vance Wood. I know those trees well.

It works that way sometimes.

Thats up to the contestents to pick a tree they are able to improve in the given time @chicago1980 posted a great example in the general forums wich can be improved even more in spring when the tree will be able to go into a nice pot

I do get you mike some tree's entered wont improve that much over winter...
its about picking the right tree for this contest.... it can be done with the right choice of material!

So why not do whatever and post the product now?
It isn't going to change over the winter so there is no progress to document.
I didn't put any parameters on this thing and I don't believe any have been set other than everyone has to do their own work. As far as I am concerned everyone can do what ever floats their boats, blows their socks off and makes their hair stand up.

Looks like this contest favors us in the deep south.

Work on bonsai always depends on weather and climate. That usually means those with the loneger growing seasons will have the advantage. I believe that's why the end is in next may.
