So it looks like all the root grafts took - I should be able to remove this this coming spring. The new roots will simply have a diluted lime sulfur mix to match the color and all bud will be knocked off.
This one needs to be cleaned up a bit.
This one was simply wedged in there and allowed to grow.
This back root graft has almost completely fused
This guys produces so many roots it's ridiculous. I was very zealous with the roots prune this spring and it still is going crazy.
Very bushy as it's been allowed to grow to gain some girth and with all the new root grafts. I might trim back this weekend and wire as I have yet to wire this tree.
I like the species - bit coercer then a trident but I don't think it should be disqualified as bonsai as it conforms very well. I have 4 of them of different varieties. I like working with them, plus there local and ez to find if you want to collect them.
With out much effort, as the tree is still in development I'm getting very small leaves on this tree. Spent last night wireing the entire tree for the first time.
I'm working with several of these as well. I collected a largish one early this spring that's coming along pretty well. I'm trying not to get too attached to it in case I experience the rotting from the chop problem that I've heard about with this species. I think I've got the pruning figured out to get the smaller leaves and internodes you are showing.
