Evolution of Mirai Live

My biggest gripe with Mirai is I can't stream/cast it on my television, never works.

Yeah, now you get to listen to four-paragraph-long sentences without the distraction of a gorgeous tree on the screen. You'll remember it much better that way

Tough crowd 😂

I don’t mind the lecture style. Perhaps I am outing myself for being a total nerd. 😜

Dont think this has been posted yet.

Mirai live is back after a hiatus of a year or so. Am curious as to whether the videos will actually change or whether that's just marketing talk.

I've watched a ton of Mirai, but I recently subscribed to Bjorn (Bonsai U) and I gotta say, I enjoy Bjorns videos a lot atm. Mirai live is great, but its such a 'heavy' (and looong) watch. Bjorn is a lot more brief, and since he's in Japan now he can shoot a ton of interesting videos. Appreciate them both though, and will probably sub to Mirai again at some point in the future.

I did the reverse and left Bjorn and returned to Mirai.

I needed more bonsai technique videos. I enjoy the move to Japan and I would really love to see more of the history of bonsai from Bjorn.

Ill flip flop again in the future.

Watched about ten minutes of the stream…. Had to go back to tucking trees into winter storage before darkness falls.

I like the way the format changed, with Ryan going over his recorded work slowly, simplifying, and explaining step by step how he performed each bend… how to bend with 4 gauge wire etc. use of these time honored teaching techniques amps up the learning of viewers imho.

Of course Ryan is still Ryan. His colorful language remains.

Off course, a ten minute sample isn’t as good as an hour sample. Yet as an educator with many years of experience assessing other educators, added to. experience watching Ryan in person and on video, I’d say the changes in Ryan’s stream have added quite a bit of value for the viewer

I understand 90% of what Ryan says, unlike Randy Knight, for example, whose words I don't understand at all. 😅

And Ryan' artistic talent is still the same I suppose. The trees in his gallery are more beautiful than each other. And some are very wild, which is his stylistic signature.

Oh, they’re pre-recorded now?
The styling of the tree is pre recorded and then ryan is walking the audience through the styling using multi cam angles, close up shots and reference pictures from the wild.

He also used a tablet and drew over the pre recorded tree styling to share his thoughts and choices.

It was a memorable experience.

Did he say anything about love streams being an ongoing thing or just a one off? I didn't see anything in the marketing material that made it seem permanent

Yes he mentioned a number of times that we were joining for the maiden voyage of the revival of live streaming endeavor. The implication being there will be more to come. No exact details on frequency or future streams, but I am hopeful we will get another one in the next few weeks

Stoked the stream is back, but there is no substitute for watching high level trees being styled in real time by the best practitioners in the world. Not loving the new format where he pauses the video regularly to answer questions. And no, there didn't seem to be a firm commitment on how often he would do these.

I look forward to seeing the evolution of Mirai. I enjoyed the livestreams... but found myself using them less and less over the years - and would simply watch the videos later as I had time. I do look forward to seeing better organization and cross-referencing and plan on continuing my subscription.

To be honest, I always wondered about the work load associated with everything he was doing. To have a livestream once per week is one thing. To have a livestream AND run a nursery AND go to all the big shows is another. It is extremely difficult to keep that level of quality content up for years and years. He had several employees to help - but even that adds a layer of complexity.
These are my feelings as well. If subs price goes up or otherwise I'm likely done. Mostly I havn't been available to watch. His online teaching is fabulous and fortunately will survive in the library. Being so world famous now I thought he was doing well financially. Having seen his garden 4 times before the charge to visit was an amazing adventure and education all by itself and for all of this I am endlessly grateful. 😌
