Encore Azalea?

I am excited about the Azalea I got from you Eric, you think it can bloom next season?
It should. The cutting was from a tree that has bloomed for me, so I expect it to. If I remember correctly, yours is a pink one. Not a fancy bloom, but a good shape and size for Bonsai!

Maybe we can still meet then, it just depends on what time. Our local Bonsai club has a Bonsai professional - Rodney Clemmons coming in for a seminar on the 17th and 18th. I am signed up for an 8:00am and a 2:00pm session. It will be my first real bonsai training.

Does this mean I don't get to buy pots?

that would be cool, I def want to meet up, check out Azaleas, and show you some pots.

As an azalea person, I would say don't waste your time with these.

Remember flowering for an azalea is the second biggest stress to them (the first being rootwork). In the ground these trees can handle multiple blooms a year, but in a pot you would probably have a weak tree.

Also, there is nothing special about the flowers. I would rather have a stunning satsuki or kurume flower once a year, than a boring flower multiple times a year.
I do notice, the encores don't bloom really full like others. The flowers are in groups of 2 or 3 instead of 5 and more sparsely dispersed over the plant. But, I have one. Might as well see what I make happen in the future. I'm not going to be taking it to shows or anything, only for my own enjoyment. And therefore, not a waste of time to me.
