I got these plastic plant shelves from my Dad after looking high and low for something to use to put my bonsai on....He had them just laying in the backyard....Below are a couple of progress pics.

Sweet!!...Where did you get these?

My Dad is a packrat....He got them out of a dumpster from either Walmart or Lowes....He never did anything with them so he gave them to me...They had a few places where the plastic was busted, but that was an easy fix.

Not too shabby for free ninety nine

All you need is a couple of yards of gravel on the ground. Nice work.

I plan on doing the walls and floor like I did my firepit/paito area.... I get the scrap granite from work....Just need to buy the landscape blocks.

I was just thinking how rain drainage will be in the hole..lots of sand under the granite. Very nice.

That must have taken a LONG time using those Tonka trucks in the last picture! Looks good though - and would like to see what you do next! ;)

Good job!

Don't worry about the trees...they will come and soon you will need to add more shelves. :D

Nice finds. Did you wash and hose them down? I would wash them with soap and water and rince them off thoroughly. They might have been used for all kinds of plants. Before I would put trees on them, I would want them to be clean.

I didn't wash them down good enough now that you mention it....I did wipe them down....They have been in my Dad's backyard for 2 or 3 years under a tarp.....They still need a good washing just in case.

Progress update....

Well after getting the shelves all set up I decided it would be easier to do the cap stone on top of the brick wall with the shelves out of the way. I got the brick work and floor finished tonight so it's time for the shelves to go back up. See below for a few progression pics.

Now that's a nice lookin bonsai area...you might need to upgrade your shelves...lol. Nice work!!

Very nice. How are you going to drain the low spot?

There is no low spot...Optical illusion I guess. The whole floor slopes down and to the right towards the opening....It's all down hill from there. Look at the floor line where it hits the brick.....The brick is set level all the way around. I washed it down many times when grouting it and it all drains pretty well. But it sure does look like it get low in the left hand corner.
