Sawgrass, thanks I'll be keeping an eye on that post, but I'm willing to wager the reserve will put in the range of the other Japanese set, which was leather not leatherette, which was the only reason I wanted it

Wireme, no luck on the chop yet but it's ok, I identified one of the tools, the tweezers, to be asagini I think they're called? The others I could not identify yet. Most of the tools have a kind of branch with two leaves on the right handle and a symbol followed by the Japanese characters underneath the left handle. I am going to hold off and put a little more money in my tool fund and keep looking.

Just a quick observation... My first tools were a set from dallasbonsai.com. They have been OK, and they were never intended to be master level tools. At this point I am leaning towards kaneshin tools direct from them. I've read good review on them and prices really aren't bad even when you include shipping.

when you were unable to figure out where to go with your
trees...

I also seem to recall re-posting a thread that you had posted
in the far of lands of the Tea Room, when you were having health
issues, cause I felt that it was important.

Oh yeah and somehow I also managed along the way to post
up a few trees as well...

All my neea, campeche, buttonwood, and other tropicals came from this vendor. I actually purchased one with this group (not linked). He is a good seller.

Remember that a tree's potential is what YOU see on the stock...not other people's vision (or lack of it)...unless they help you see, design, & train it.

The Neea is a Puerto Rican native. Is it possible that these trees can withstand New Jersey winter temperatures? Unless you bring it indoors, or you have a greenhouse I guess that could work. I've contemplated purchasing one. Since I've killed many trees by ignoring what grows well in my climate zone, I've been hesitant on doing so.

I do a good majority of my bonsai shopping on Ebay. There's a lot of generous sellers, and a lot of shady ones. Sometimes you'll see massive trunked trees going for ridiculously low prices. Other times you'll see twigs going for several hundred... WTF?! As for tools, I bought my first beginner set from Dallas Bonsai. For five years of the addiction, they've done me well.

No. I protect them (they go indoors) at 50*F and below.

Neea is almost like a cactus...it loves heat/full sun and probably the most heat loving tree I have. It is one of the first trees I ever bought and is going in their 3rd winter now. My setup is just using 2 tube 48" T8 lights. It is enough to keep them alive indoors but not thriving. I am sure they will appreciate more.

Note that I left them out last year at 48*F with strong winds, they already showed "leaf burn" and turned black.

BTW, if you ever consider getting a Neea...do not buy now. It can die in transit before getting to you with the current temperatures. Do it in spring or better yet summer, less stress to the tree.
