Been needle thinning and wiring a little this Fall and seems the tree needs a shallower pot to show off the nebari. I am considering making this pot or one very similar as I am teaching ceramics at the college (again) after several years which gives me full access. Image A is the current front with simply better wiring at crown. Image B is rotated to bring the curve into more of the viewers plane (meaning it is coming at you). It also shows the jin better. And lastly the far right hand in current mode in older Tokoname pot.
In both I am attempting to grow out the lowest right hand branch for better balance over all.

I like “A” Vance. It could just be how the virtual shows the tree planted in the pot vs the other. In particular that angle seems to work best based on what I’m seeing. Shows the best balance with the pot and it’s off center to the left planting.

I don't like that shallow and wide of pot. I'd go for something like this.

Both views are very nice. A -being more dynamic while B is graceful.
I’m sure this could be easy remedied, but these two branches in the crown is really distracting me in view B. 80E703E7-12C6-487E-8BE6-E12563E04D1B.jpeg
thanks for the inspiration!

Nice idea on the deeper pot. Yet I wanted to show off the “width” of the nebari…

Eckhoff, yes the crown is just now being developed and that will be “filled” in. Thanks!!

More thinking needed… I still am going to be making bunches of new pots and probably without a doubt a bunjin is a possibility…

Just like when we want to make the trunk appear thicker we narrow the crown, I feel like this accentuates the nebari better than the wider pot.

Merced has hot summers. Don't go too shallow on the pot.

Very nice progress with this material.
Have you considered compacting/shortening some branches to create more asymmetry. The branching length appears somewhat uniform all the way up for my taste. Narrowing the crown and adding some directionality. I do like your suggestion to lengthen the branch lower right to balance the negative space and induce more directionality/tension to the design.
The angle of the third branch up on the right could assist this change with a bit of downward movement.
Just another opinion;)

Actually yes and that is part of the near future plans but thanks so much for you most thoughtful and excellent imaging ideas!
