I collected some a couple weeks ago and from what I have researched Cladonia didyma or "British Soldiers" as well as many other Lichens do well on old rotting wood. I collected a quarter inch or so of the wood along with them attached to it. I placed it all on a three inch pot with a Psilotum nudum or "Whisk Fern" for future use as an accent. Lichen require the moisture gathered from the night air and morning dew. They use that water until it is gone when exposed to the sun and then go dormant until the next day. That pot is in a terrarium and needs misting each morning prior to the grow lights going on to simulate nature. Both of those plants are a bit tricky to place and work with because they are very delicate. They are very fascinating and I am happy I bothered.
