What is the difference in time for collecting material and/or repotting it? I have saved a plant last year from death, it was thrown in the forest on the ground to die, but i put it in nearby hole in the ground and filled it up with some soil. It's still alive so i want to retrieve it, should i wait for repotting time or can i get it now (it's totally not freezing / going to freeze here).

My question is, what is the difference in collecting and repotting time (of the season) or is it the same? Or does it depends on the level of rootwork. Or does it entirely depend on the work done / species used?

<--- no expert but I would think the difference is that when repotting the roots don't get torn up as much as when dug up out of the ground. So you would want to do it when the plants ready to grow the most and can heal it self quickly. ..?

Main difference is that in repotting you are dealing with the plant that is established on living in the pot.
A lot of it depends on species and what you can get away with. For example how much original soil you can remove. Quantity and quality of roots is of main concern , dormant period too .
Now people have different experience with the same species so there is no rule of a thumb, not to mention conifers that are completely other word.
You can do it now but what else you can do depends on species.
For example if it is a beech in question, above advice from Sorce would be deadly wrong.:)
Beech must be fully dormant for a bigger chance of survival.

Ok, i will leave it for today (make some pictures later today), it would be wise to study it some more. It still has leaves (i think they never dropped), i will check the buds.

I have two yardmadori plants to dig up, all I did so far was plunge a 16” long shovel in the ground, all the way around it to ”prune the roots” without moving the tree. Had to get the axe out for a couple, but that was before it got real cold here.
I'm going to dig em up in early spring.
With that said, unless you know specific details about the species, I'd wait till spring buds are swelling.

Here are some pictures (and a 360):

Most leaves stayed on and are green:

A video, young Dutchie, that is hard to focus on important things in, and woke up the house with leafy rustling!

Whatevs! Cypress! I'm with you on your vision!
