iveseen the wire mesh move but part of my serenity comes from the appearance of my potted plants, cant stand the idea of all that wire looking like crap..may have to bite the bullet tho....this is the time of year it starts for me, I dont have issue all year and then they come every day lol

Befriend the oldest, grouchiest squirrel.. that’s what I did... she’s a grump.. she chases younger squirrels and birds away. I’ve also seen her “take on” a yellow jacket’s nest

It just dawned on me that this may not help you. 😬

I use the heavy plastic trunk protector, cut into shape to tightly fit the pot, it doesn't help with gnawing on the trunk, but it's protecting the roots..

Crushed hot peppers are effective for me. So is powdered garlic. And nothing seems to work better than fox and coyote urine granules that I get on amazon.
That sounds like my kind of answer . ala the fox n yote peepee

I meant to post this picture ... My red pine was getting abused, this has helped significantly

I have planted so many shrubs and flowers in my yard this year. I do put out feed for the squirrels and chipmunks.
I blame the rabbits for the damage.
I am caging everything for winter.

And the urine doesn't effect the plants? More of a hormone probably?

Best way to avoid intense squirrel damage is NOT to grow small trees. Grow big bonsai, the thicker bark and bigger trunks aren't as interesting to rodents. You can also encourage predators, like I do. Instead of killing snakes, I ignore them. They are the BEST rodent deterrent out there... This black snake has been around my backyard since he was a pup six or seven years ago.
