Crabapple progression

That is one beautiful and robustly healthy tree! Congratulations—your hard work and attention to detail is paying off.
As to pots…personally, I think it would look fabulous in an oval or soft rectangle in ruri blue. I think that deep blue would make the white blossoms look just brilliant by contrast. That being said, I will admit to bias…fully 80% of my pots are various shades of blue.

I've got the same issue, but with green pots! Can't seem to get enough of them...

Why is it labelled Pyrus calleryana?!
Oops! Good catch on the photo. The pics are two different trees - the unlabeled can is the crabapple. I got a pear, quince and trident as well when I ordered from them.

Hi MH. I’ve got a nice little crabapple going which I keep in the vicinity of an ERC as well as having multiple mature ERC’s around my property. Where I live they’re everywhere. If you hadn’t mentioned it I never wouldn’t known you struggle with rust on your tree, it looks absolutely incredible! I hope for mine to be half as good someday and I’d be thrilled. My question for you is how do you go about managing the rust so effectively? I am interested in beginning managing it ASAP as I know it will become an issue and my hope is an ounce of prevention will be worth a pound of cure.

Good year for this one. Leaves were yellowing so I helped it along. Fall color isn’t much to speak of.

It’s didn’t extend much new growth this year, just a few nodes. The small pot really slows growth. It’s filled the pot with roots and is pushing itself out. Will surely need to repot next spring.

Just a few apples held on and didn’t get eaten.

Do you recall what cultivar you have? It looks like one I also got from Evergreen, called ‘snowdrift’, which is the same as a non-bonsai tree in my front yard.
First the birds ate all the apples, and yesterday a squirrel placed a black walnut [fortunately] on top of the soil. Btw, I totally agree about the pink flower buds being the prettiest phase. Glad to see yours is progressing so nicely.

Cultivar is sugar tyme I believe. From his site:

6270 Malus 'Sugar Tyme' 20 feet Vigorous oval upright for Malus . Green foliage. Pink buds opening to white flowers. Persistent small red fruit. The profusion of fruit on this cultivar is incredible, large clusters of 50 or more hang from the branches all winter turning from bright red to an almost fluorescent red orange. One of the best for bonsai. Cutting grown.

Just saw this question…I use clearys 3336 granular a couple times annually and dalconil, seems to have improved results.

Thanks! I wish we were all in the habit of posting stats. Gives me a better idea of proportions and something of an idea to shoot for. This is a beautiful and elegant tree. I have a few crabs in the growing out stage. Last year I didn't prune the fruit off one and it didn't grow much. Lesson learned.

Pretty amazing - I just posted a video of my crab apple on my youtube channel - I hope mine can be like yours some day!
