Cork bark liquidambar?

@19Mateo83 heres a couple from behind my house. Technically they’re on a neighbor’s property but I’m going to ask for permission.View attachment 579711
Nice! It is important to collect it just before the buds break in spring and get as much root as possible. Sweet gum can be fickle.

I've had one for 4 years or so. Pretty hardy and they bud out well. Sadly, they HATE to ramify and the leaves don't really reduce unless you continuously cut the bigger leaves throughout the summer.

There's a ton of liquidambar on my new collection permission site. I may just dig one with less movement but a nice nebari. They just seem to usually have weird roots around the base of most of them I see, which is odd because every other species on the property generally have amazing radial roots. This one looked like it had nice root flare till I kicked back the leaves. Shallow topsoil over shale in the area, so I assume liquidambar like to shoot out a big ol tap root similar to a lot of oaks.

I've barely skimmed the surface on the 40 acre property though, so may find a decent one before spring.
