Tree looks good. No need for the sphagnum moss. If you are concerned about inverse taper in your tree, simply air-layer it in the middle of the bulge. Then you will have two great trees!

Starting to leaf out now. Fixed root girdling issue, lost some branches to some sort of animal last year.
Did some cut back this couple weeks ago, and hoping to build some branches. I need to get some deer/rabbit repellent.

It is producing crazy numbers of shoots at the spots where the branch was cut back . There are some spots where 5 or 6 new shoots are coming out from a single junction. Do I wait until the leaves harden off to remove the unwanted growth? Or is it earlier the better when it comes to removing them?
