So I had my chop saw out and a piece of collected trunk from a hawthorn available and decided to try to get a clean cut to count tree age.....

Most my collecting was in Acworth this year. @Hack Yeah! took me to his place southeast of Atlanta for the latest big batch of trees.

An update on “Big Hoss” which is what I’m calling this winged elm I collected earlier this year. Notice the trunk size compared to the 4x4 in the background.

I went back this morning to check on a couple of trees where I did most of my collecting earlier this year. This a hop-hornbeam that I field chopped and left until next year. It was chopped at about 16” with no visible buds. I was happy to see the new growth.

A quick update on some of the collected trees from this spring. Some of the pics are not very great. It’s hard to tell the size of them but these are 12” pots.

Was only going to trench this spindle, but after going around with a saw, I could feel it was coming. Nice shallow root ball. Will get a bare rooting at a more appropriate time.
