Collected oak (bicolor) little black beetles are attacking and drilling into it, help!

That's definitely a bark beetle of some type. See the link in my last message, or search for "bark beetle" or "ambrosia beetle" for more information (for example, http://jenny.tfrec.wsu.edu/opm/displaySpecies.php?pn=530). I think this is a problem that more of us are going to be dealing with. That's about all I have to offer at this point. Good luck...
 
i put it out to pasture.

i have several other oaks that are ailve this year, none are the bicolor. I will try a bicolor again next year maybe. there are several ive worked in the ground for over 4 years now.. not sure if they are worth lifting or not, but im going to do it early not only to ward off the beetle things, but that seems to be working for oaks.
