Nothing like one who thinks he's wonderful to tell me I am not. I don't particularly care for Harris not because of her off white heritage but her off American socialism. It is not ruight for someone to be rejected out of public service because of racial back ground. It is also not right for someone to be able to dodge scrutiny for actions or opinions while hiding behind some WOK identity.

Once again, I really can't understand why a lot of people who claim to be "Christians" (though I think we all read the same Gospels) are so selfish, unable to give their fair share to the community. The way this "fair share" is defined and used, tht'a politrics, not morals or ethics. But labelling people who try to help those in need "commies", is just showing at best short-sightedness.
Today, I heard a French-American journalist point out one of the main differences between our values :
Our motto is "Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité". The three all go together : there can't be any Fraternity without Equality, and there can't be Equality without Liberty. So the notion of "Egalité" is bound to the notion of "Liberté".
The US "Revolution" was actually a war of independence, and that is somewhat different, though a lot of Europeans inspired by the "Enlightments" got involved in this conflict because they shared this ideal of "Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité", from La Fayette to Garibaldi, not to mention Kosciusko and others.
But for the "Americans", "Liberty" is the only value : freedom of thought, OK : you can burn a cross in your neighbour's frontyard. Freedom of enterprise, OK : you can become immensely rich by ruining all your "competitors".
Those who are discarded can be left to dire straits, it's their fault, what's more "god" wants it that way. Very comfortable, but then, there's "charity". Getting bigger, more popular by showing how much crumbs you can throw to the poor. Who of course are lazy bones, like workers made redundant, in the factories, in the mines, in the fields...
In fact, in spite of all our common history, I wonder if we're not closer to the Japanese in some aspects. The individual only exists as part of a community.
Well, one of my resolutions for 2021 was to stop arguing (ranting) about politics and religion.

The more I read threads like these the more I think folks need to actually meet a liberal in real life rather than on Fox News. It's amazing to me how when you look into opinion polling we all basically want the same thing (and yes, many of those things would be considered socialism) but the football team rival aspect of it sprinkled with a few throwaway hot button issues to stir the pot (they're going to take our guns! - no they aren't, we had that debate, schools full of children were murdered, we did nothing, debate over, guns won, fucking take the win already) ruins everything.
Whatever. I'm here for the bonsai. This thread just keeps popping up when I browse via new.

Just in case you don't really know, SSI is a retirement program that you pay into through payroll deductions, the government takes it from you. So as some are willing to proclaim, SSI is a government give away----- it is not, it is my money your money we have paid into it for the last 70 years, it is not the governments money to take away.

No it's not. The government has beern stealing from it for years but the next time you get a pay check look at the deductions. Most of those deductions are called FICA and that's your SSI contributions. If you think SSI is government give away you are being conned. The government is bribing you with your own money.
