Pitoon
Imperial Masterpiece
I thought about crossing the dwarfs with hopes of creating a new color and/or flower type. Crossing with a normal sized mum could be a gamble in what you get.Has anyone tried to further hybridize these? I think it would be an interesting experiment with a possibility of many different flower colors. I guess the key would be for the crosses to retain the woody stems and low, compact growth habit. Maybe I'll give it a shot after getting my hands on some cuttings. I noticed there are a few more cultivars that King's Mums recommends for tree form that aren't under the gnomes category. I need to get my hands on those next season.
Below is the leaf size of a normal mum (left) to a dwarf (right), combining the two could result in a mix from large to small and everything in between. If I am able to do the cross this fall, I won't know the results till the following year if I'm lucky.
