Chrysanthemums as Bonsai, or Kusamono or Sanyasou

Has anyone tried to further hybridize these? I think it would be an interesting experiment with a possibility of many different flower colors. I guess the key would be for the crosses to retain the woody stems and low, compact growth habit. Maybe I'll give it a shot after getting my hands on some cuttings. I noticed there are a few more cultivars that King's Mums recommends for tree form that aren't under the gnomes category. I need to get my hands on those next season.
I thought about crossing the dwarfs with hopes of creating a new color and/or flower type. Crossing with a normal sized mum could be a gamble in what you get.

Below is the leaf size of a normal mum (left) to a dwarf (right), combining the two could result in a mix from large to small and everything in between. If I am able to do the cross this fall, I won't know the results till the following year if I'm lucky.

I know hybridizing plants is a longterm proposition. I think it would be a fun side project that could yield some interesting results. Crossing dwarfs would probably be the most predictable. Although I think it would be fun to cross with medium or even tall mums to see what traits win out. It could create dwarf types with new flowers. At the very least they could make for some more interesting ornamental flowers.

Now you're starting to think like how I think about azaleas, lol
