Chojubai for sale

I was going to purchase Chojubai directly from the Japanese nursery during my visit, every nursery I inquired declined to ship to the US. I called the USDA and have confirmed the ban of Chojubai import into the US. According to USDA, this has been in effect for many years.
FYI - Black and red pines are also on the list.

Correct, they need to be imported into a certified and inspected quarantine facility, not shipped to the house.

Hi Brian, quarantine 2 years in a certified Japanese Nursery, then Japanese quarterly certified inspection and then USDA inspection is the normal procedure for importing live plants into the US. Chaenomeles Japonica (Chojubai) and 2 leave pine (Black, Red) is currently on the USDA's "No" list, which means even if they go through the import process, they will not be able to make it through the USDA inspection upon arrival to the USDA's inspection facility. USDA is getting really tough on importing live plants. Mike H from Orlando

Sounds like you’ve done your homework. Wonder how Brussel’s is still getting them in, or if this is a recent change since his last batch of imports. Either way, I guess I’ll continue my plan to not try to import any trees from Japan.?

I import Satsuki from Japan; only for my hobby collection, and I am not a nursery or sell my trees. Sometimes I wonder how some of these US nurseries are still importing black pines. I assume they import by the container and mix the blacks in with the white pines......
This is why I started the post on the Chojubai on how the prices have sky rocketed since USDA banned the import. The "TWIG" sold for $75, unreal. I assume the $888 Chojubai will sell over $1k.

Last year I was talking to Pauline Muth at the PBA Festival at the National Arboretum, she had some for sale which I thought were reasonably priced.

Don't have her contact info or know if she ships but she had nice material.

Pauline Muth is on FB auctions, perhaps she can be contacted that way.

Brussel’s has a quarantine facility. He imported a number a JBP a couple years ago under the watchful eye of the Ag Dept. They had very strict procedures he had to follow.

Okay folks, the $888 chojubai was sold at $1,185 today. I can't believe these trees are in such high demand these days. This is unreal the high prices this species. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Chaenomele...m43663.l10137&nordt=true&rt=nc&orig_cvip=true
Wow, the seller is new to eBay as well. I would have been leery with that. I always question people misidentifying chojubai. But this looks possibly correct in an ID.

It's one reason I am trying to make a white clump...they must be pretty amazing characteristics to be sought after.

This seller has nice trees, looks very authentic Japanese chojubai. I follow his auctions, and all 7 chojubai he listed were sold fast. They were all single trunk, which is very rare imo. He received excellent feedbacks from the trees he sold. I'll see what he has to offer and maybe buy his next chojubai if the price is affordable.

All of four feedback replies. Good luck to you...since they seem to go high. But...I typically don't buy from one with such a low feedback count. Just my standards.

I contacted the seller, she said the chojubais were imported from Japan a long time ago. They were grown in the ground at the Japanese nursery, and have been training in the pots for the past 20+ years. She is not a regular seller and these were from her private collection. She may list one or 2 more along with a couple of japanese maples and japanese black pines.

Japanese Chojubai are very hard to come by, especially old specimens like this. I have not seen them for sale since the USDA banned them from importing into the US.
It will be very interesting to see this one for $888 and how high the price will go. The other one with the green beige pot for $1,050 was snatched up last weekend.
If you think the right "duck" will purchase the $888, check out the following twig that was sold for $75. https://www.ebay.com/itm/3-Red-Flow...m43663.l10137&nordt=true&rt=nc&orig_cvip=true

The listing was for 3 established cutting-grown chojubai, shipping included. So, 3 twigs, as you say.

Any idea where to source good red chojubai material to work with these days in 2020. I've got a couple cuttings from brent at everygreen, and while they are very healthy they are a long way from being workable
