Hello everyone. This afghan pine was collected from the wild last year. It was repotted in pumice and crushed bricks well draining mixture in early February this year. The tree was pretty happy but last month strong wind knocked out the pine tree, breaking the pot and damaging the canopy. The damage was so bad that I had to prune the canopy. The tree was repotted carefully into the new pot. Ever since the growth halted on the tree. Some of the new buds started to turn brown. I don't know much about the pine, but I assume tree is not happy. The old needle became brittle and dry. Some of the pictures are shared below. What is the problems tree undergoing (nutrient deficiency, wet soil, too much sunlight etc.) Your suggestions will be appreciated.

I would ask about, using two water holding inorganics.

Does this pine like a lot of water?

Is the pot plastic or other?
Good Day

@Anthony thanks for the reply. The pine is already in pumice, crushed bricks and grit mixture. It is free draining. The pot is made up of clay. Is pine ok , Any tip ?

Hi Ali. Was repotting just done:confused:? Tree looks like it is wilting from lack of H2Oo_O. Could be from root damage if repotted in last month or shortage of H2O itself.

Pruning the canopy took off the strongest foliage, repotting disturbed the roots, the tree was still recovering from collection. It usually takes two full years for a pine to recover from collection, sometimes three. Do no further work or disturbance, be consistent with watering and wait. If the tree survives give it another year of recovery before attempting any work.
You will want to see lots of new growth before beginning a bonsai journey with this tree.

Can I do something to save it ? It wasn't my fault, the wind is strong here at the end of may due to transient in weather. I do water and mist regularly.

Agree with Rivers Edge. Only continue simple care and wait. Some things cannot be rushed. Patience ;)

I guess what’s already been said. Wait and see and try to water as best you can.

But, I would love to see some pics of the areas you have to collect trees in someday. I’ve spent a lot of time in the Himalayas over the years, seen some bahut achchaa collecting grounds there.

Sure @wireme I will just give me couple of weeks so that I can plan hiking. You been here in Pakistan ?

@wireme you should definitely visit. Don't believe the news. Come pay visit sometime and see our hospitality. Many beautiful places to visit. Some of the fascinating wonder here in our country are:

249155
Baltoro Glacier (Longest non-polar glaciers in the world)

249156

K2 (Second Highest Peak in the world) base camp trek

249157

Passu Cone (Most Photographed Scenery )
249158
Nanga Parbat Fairy Meadows Camp

249159
Ziarat: An ancient juniper forest and its living fossils

Wow!

I don't know what I like better...
The amazing countryside...
Or the prompt way it was delivered!

Great Stuff @Ali thanks for sharing!

Fantastic! Remarkably similar to some of the scenes here in many ways. My mountains are mere foothills in comparison but often the Himalayan forests feel a lot like home. Maybe someday, I really love that area of the world and all the varied mountain cultures there. I had a nice view of K2 one time during the short flight from Srinagar to Leh.

I look forward to seeing more when you go hiking in a couple weeks, wish I could join you!!

One additional item might be to fix a humidity tent over top to help retain moisture if the temperatures are very high or high winds. Plastic bag type enclosure. Poke some holes for ventilation.

@Ali Raza ,

suggestion, with any new plant.
Get 5 to 10 to experiment on.

Not wise to experiment on the one you love the most.
Just get that one - Healthy..
Best of growing

I'm thinking about visiting Pakistan within a few years. Is there anything I should know that only the locals know about @Ali Raza ?
Now I just need to convince my girlfriend.. I'm almost 1,9 meters tall, she is just 1,65 or so. Our last hike in the Alps was kind of hard for her; she had to take twice as many steps as I did.

If you get strong winds in your area, I suggest you secure the trees to their pots.
Some pieces of rubber and some rope or wire can make a lot of difference. One of my junipers dropped 2 meters two weeks ago, but it's wired into the pot. It survived the drop without any damage. The plants below it didn't have that much luck.

It will be really honor for me. Manage sometime and we could trek the mountains together. There is more to show. I will be sharing soon.

Well from many virgin peaks of karakorum (still waiting to be scaling) to valleys and meadows of northern area, there are several places to explore depending upon challenging yourself. I will surely keep you updating about different places.
