Camellia

Thank you sir, that's super helpful! Is there a particular fertilizer you'd recommend that helps acidify the soil?
Mir-acid or Miracle Gro for acid loving plants, I've seen it labeled both ways. @Leo in N E Illinois also sells a fertilizer for acid loving plants.

Yes, I noticed that too. According to my mother, they have a good amount of stock in an indoor greenhouse, as well as some stuff still out in the yard. I guess the website isn't updated very frequently, but if you're local it's still worth the trip! Apparently it was one they hadn't gotten around to repotting yet, so mom also grabbed a pot at their recommendation and a bag of soil. For those who are more experienced than the 4 days I've had with this species: When should I repot it? Seems like Superfly was intending to do it soon. What kind of winter care would need to be involved after a repot at this time of year?
I got one from them for Christmas last year. I got another gift card for them this year, but their website shows they are sold out of almost everything.
I was there earlier this week looking for akadama for repotting season hoping they had some not listed on the website; they said the website was being reconstructed and stock is being reuploaded but a long term project. I walked away with some 3-4 year old black pine seedlings.

They have camellias and a lot of prebonsai stock as well as some more advanced material, would call if interested in something.

They also just bought some land in Florida and are starting to field grow so would expect that to show up as potential purchases in the next few years, sounded like mostly junipers to start.

You’re welcome! I am seeking to learn from others’ experience with camellia myself. After almost 4 year with my first camellia and 1 yr with my 2nd camellia, I feel fairly confident with what I am doing. Hopefully once you are successful with yours, then you’ll share your experience with us!
I use Dr Earth Acidic fertilizer, here is what I got from Amazon(not affiliated).

that is fantastic news, thanks for the update!

I now have a few Camellia. The fertilizer I use was formulated for blueberries, as I had a blueberry farm for about 5 years. The Blueberry fertilizer derives 100% of it's nitrogen as ammonium ion. Most acid loving plants prefer their nitrogen as ammonium ion or as amino acids. For what ever that is worth.

I still have a few hundred pounds left of blueberry fertilizer. PM me if you want to buy some.
