Callistemon in deveopment.

That base flare!
Very nice indeed.

So here is an update for you all, every single one of my Callistemons in training have fert burn, bad. Turns out the seaweed "revitaliser" they sell here is about 300 times the strength of the type of product I am used to(seasol), needless to say they got dosed pretty bad. Got all my young Melaleucas too.
I'm a bit devastated but if they can be saved I'm more than happy to start over with them. I kind of expect them to bounce back naturally, eventually but wonder if cutting back hard would help speed things up.

Ahh sorry to hear that Jarrod ,it may help to sit them in a bucket of water( a couple of inches deep) to try and "dilute" it out. This will help if the roots aren't gone yet. The roots will love the extra water for a while..

Cheers Craig. It was my own mistake which just makes me feel silly but at least I can pin point what I did wrong. On the upside I still have a couple of others that I wasn't using which I can re-purpose.

I have tried to flush them as much as possible, this was a couple of weeks back. A couple of them look better than others so they may pull through.

Here we are again with the latest poop on the Syzygium which masqueraded for it's first 70 years as a bottle brush. Commonly called lilly pilly in OZ. All praise to Craigm for setting me straight.;)
I didn't re pot last year just to see what would happen and now it's stuffed with roots and drains slowly. And leafing out as you can see. I'd like to re pot now but temps are in the 40's and 50'sF so I'd worry a bit if I did it. Then comes the wire.
On we go...View attachment 231818View attachment 231818

Update on the Syzygium that masqueraded for it's first 70 years as a bottle brush. All praise to Craigm for this revelation.;) I didn't repot last year just to see what would happen. I'd like to repot now but it's still very much winter here with nights getting down to the 50'sF and sometimes lower so I'm hesitant. Still, the longer I wait the more hardened off the new growth will be and the more risky. Screwy weather here. Ignore the above entry. Pics didn't work.:oops:P1020984.jpeg

Hi Shima . Your Syzygium that masqueraded as a bottle brush for 70 years is probably a Callistemon citrinus . Syzygium have opposite leaves while Callistemon have alternate or spiral leaves . Very nice tree .
