Bursera | General Info & Bonsai Cultivation

BTW what's the consensus of a decent price for a Bursera fagaroides with a 1.5-2" base?
Many of the online retailers charge around $75 - $150 for that size range. But that can vary a lot based on taper, branching, height and inventory. It is not hard to get a seedling and get to up to that diameter in about 2 years. So you can save money going smaller and developing the caudex yourself.

Are seeds widely available? If so how is the viability?

Both seeds and seedling are usually available from Spring through Fall in the USA (as that is the harvest window in our hemisphere). I sell small amounts during that time window as well. The "Burseraceae - Bursera, Boswellia, & Commiphora" Facebook group is a great resource for finding seed and seedlings: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1460581837601135/user/100085643285456. I have a few older listings on there for reference on pricing and shipping.

Regarding viability, I have a about a 70% on average across the last 5 years. Last season, it was closer to 90%. But my seed stock is harvested from trees that are healthy and in Bonsai cultivation (happy). Seed harvested from wild trees can be as low as 20% as the parent trees are stressed and have access to near zero nutrients, so the seeds tend to be rather hit or miss.

I don't get on FB much anymore but that might be a good reason... Socials tend to be a massive time suck for me!!! LOL I am already in that group I do believe.

I hear you on that. It is a solid group for learning about the species and broader genus.
