Build a Zelkova!

test

wow this is weird.

test

I don't know what the f**k is going on but I managed to get this pic through.
Some rough pruning done. More needs to come off but I'll wait until it buds again. Repotting is desperately needed. -2 years in the pot now and completely full of roots.
Progress is slow but it's there. More wound carving to do and it has a new leader now which is more central to the tree.

Update after a couple of years. It was defoliated twice and hedged back twice this season with this result.

Below - after wiring and removing thin branch on the lower left and turning the tree a few degrees counterclockwise.

Great work. What "final" size of canopy are you shooting for? You've built a ton of density already in the first sections of these main subtrunks.

Thanks Cosmos. The final size (height) of the crown should be aprox double what it is now. That is - 1/3 trunk 2/3 top. Re the density, that will be adjusted as necessary. Meaning some of the less important elements will probably come off at some point. Some already have. The main thing at the moment is equalizing equalizing equalizing

Wow, you have done a great job on this tree. It's amazing how much a tree can progress in the hands of someone who is skilled. I love this take on broom style.

Thanks for keeping us updated! Love this progression thread, what an incredible tree

Looks like you didn’t have to do a big vertical wedge cut on the top for separation. Did you?
