Breaking dormancy

I'm not worried about things here even though the forecast for the next 10 days is for it to be hovering just below the freezing point, but places outside the central Prairies could be hard hit if the trees start to bud before the temperatures begin to head sub-zero again for any amount of time.

I remember a time in the '90's when it was so warm in Calgary that the trees began to leaf out, and then the cold fronts returned... the trees took a major hit that year... hope that doesn't happen again this season.

Outside the praries but I'm safe for a while yet in the heat wave...;) nice to get some relief from the temps it's been actually. image.jpg

I am feeling like my zone 4 rating is only good for a couple weeks at a time! 3 winters in a row we get a cycle of snow, then rain, then F**king cold! I miss the powder days of the western provinces.

The trees here are hell dormant, it's colder than in Scandinavia. The winter is unusually and permanently cold. But that's weather, will see what next weeks will bring...

Mild in Ohio for the next 10 days above freezing every night. So far all our snow, cold and single diget temps have been in fall. December

February is always the killer. Shortest month but always the longest for me.

Luckily most of my trees aren't moving yet.

My chojubai is leafing out though, which means I need to go ahead and repot it now?

I went from the 49th parallel to Prince Albert and back today (only Canadians would envision this)... mid way (at Craik), I stopped for a stretch and it was +9 C... it should be closer to -9 C at the highest this time of year... oddly, almost no snow from Regina north... at the border, there is about 80 cms, there abouts, and a forecast for the next 10 days of near 0 C temps... very uncommon for January.
