Bonsainut.com url unreachable?

Seems like I posted too soon, it's an ongoing thing on mobile. Incidentally it loads after 'going back' and forth on the page, but I haven't found a reliable solution other than using bonsainut.com/forums/ instead of the main url.

Lately I've noticed at various times it will stop working and not load. It then comes back very quickly though.

I have had the same issue, fails to load or update. Close the site and wait a few minutes, reload and it’s all good.

Depending where you live, you may also experience issues with Google ad serving. As I have mentioned before, Google seems to have thrown their business model out the window and gone all-in on video ads and pop-ups, which we will never have on this site. Because they are steering advertisers away from "old school" display ads, sometimes there is a significant lag between when the site starts to load... and then it pauses waiting for the Google ad server... and then it completes the page load. Traffic on the site is up... while ad revenues have fallen 60% from one year ago.

If anyone in the world can get a fast connection, it means that EVERYONE should be able to get the same fast connection - and that there is an issue somewhere else in the system.

I don't know what your ad revenue was like before, but that sounds insane.

I've been watching the Google ads go crazy the past couple years, and I'm trying to figure out their strategy. I know there was some legal/antitrust action against them around '23 I think. Maybe that has something to do with it?

Could it be something to do with what country you're in? There's been that ongoing international fad of placing age restrictions on most of the Internet. I haven't heard of anything in Netherlands, but maybe others' restrictions could be affecting your ability to access some servers based in their countries.

I just got a spike in response time for the site... and it was while the site was waiting for gstatic.com (Google Javascript code/static image/CSS server) and play.google.com services (even though we don't have any play.google content on the site). These are cross-platform services that share/track data across web sites (among other things) and while they can make your web experience faster, they can also slow it down if the Google servers are experiencing lag. (This is how you might see ads on bonsainut.com that refer to something else you do elsewhere on the Internet).

ad revenues have fallen 60% from one year ago.

Is there anything users can do to help increase ad revenue? For example, I never click ads, but if it increased site revenue, I would not mind clicking the occasional ad just to trick Google into giving you more money.
