Bonsai Opinions...

You guys do know this has nothing to do with bonsai and everything to do with trying to get a rise out of some old men online because thats all they have left, right?

Oh, no we had no idea...

Modern day Bonsai Look Alike is mostly old men enamored with sticking a Pre Bonsai Look Alike into a Ceramic pot then standing back admiring their work as though it were some Asian Work of Art, this description fits almost all here on BNut

Bolero,

I submit that a lot of western bonsaiists ARE NOT looking to create an "Asian" work of art. Quite the contrary, I work with collected American native species. Mostly very old stuff. The trees below are hardly "Asian" in composition. they are however, like a lot of great Japanese material transcendent in their appeal, since they show age and familiar images (live oak, for instance, has a specific outline familiar to those in the south. The boxwood mirrors that)greoak2.jpgkingsville2.jpg Old material has no nationality or conformity to specific nationalistic origins..

I was not drawn to bonsai for its "Japanese-ness" or "Chinese-ness" they simply leverage VISUAL TECHNIQUES that bring out a tree's character.

I am a lifelong hunter. What drew me to bonsai was the feeling that I got from it that I got from wandering wilderness areas from the desert southwest to New England. It spoke to me with the same voice as that wildness.

BTW pots are incidental to bonsai, or even irrelevant. A slab of rock is no more "Asian" than it is "American." It simply provides boundaries for the tree. I use mostly Western potters that use many different styles.

I am not alone in this approach.

Having been involved in Bonsai Gardening for so long I have had the pleasure of knowing several Bonsai Look Alike Masters and they will generally admit that the Real Bonsai Masters are Long Gone and they are just the Care Takers of the Real Bonsai that Remain and are Legendary Examples of the Real Thing.....and that's their opinion...

and that's their opinion...

Bolero: you stated an opinion and are attempting to defend it as fact. You also stated you have been involved in "Bonsai Gardening"...... for "so long".

Having been involved in Bonsai Gardening for so long....

But, WAIT! Either you've been working on 500 year old trees (the only true bonsai, according to the Word of Bolero), or you're a liar. Let's see some of these ancient real bonsai you've been tending to. Seriously. If you're gonna make a logical fallacy such as this appeal to authority, at least back it up with evidence of your expertise.... So far I have only seen a bonsai look-alike group planting that features dead trees that you apparently recently killed.

....and stupidly paid a fortune for just to prove a point.....

I think that Ravel's Bolero is one of the most brilliant musical compositions ever created. You have attempted to ruin that for me but in spite of you I still love it. Still, I cringe to think it now represents both genius and madness for me.

If this is how you truly feel then why are you wasting your time with your plants that are by your account not bonsai, and yet you are here on a bonsai forum. I just want to understand what point you are trying to make that you would post multiple threads about your take on the subject.

But who in their right mind would pay a fortune for mere look-alikes?!?! 🌳🌲🌳🤔
Between then and now his brain melted away a little more than he was used to...

Bolero not a reference to Ravels composition but rather my Call Sign back in my USAF days in the 1960's.....

Bolero’s fantasy world is now getting populated by fantasy “Bonsai Look-Alike Masters”.

I suppose they live not in real houses, but “look-alike” houses, and eat “look-alike”food, and drive “look-alike” cars, and have “look-alike” kids, and... and... well, you get it.

His fantasy world is growing, his mind is devolving farther and farther from what the rest of us perceive as reality.

It is a form of dementia, and he does need to seek medical attention.
And the food

And we'll be eating the Beyond Meat they sell at KFC.

I just wanna know how long is "so long"....?
A true Bonsai Master must be at least 100 years old & Created-Grown-Trained by a Japanese or Chinese Master Gardener in Japan or China...Anyone else should be considered a Bonsai Master Look A Like.

A really true Penjing Master would also have to follow these Guidlines..

Wow! You were in the air force? And just look at you now. You must have been sane enough at one time.

Yeah, look at that picture Smoke posted of him sitting down. Look at his ankles. Signs of heart -
And kidney diseases. The dude’s not well...

@Bolero , dude, give it a rest. You clearly have your opinion, everyone does. But it's also clear that virtually no one on this forum agrees with you (including me). You're not going to convince anyone otherwise. You're simply just digging a deeper and deeper hole for yourself with each post on this subject. My advice is that you drop it and go away with at least some of your dignity intact.
