@Bonsai Nut origin story

A relatively central location would be a must. It would have to be large enough city to have a venue to accommodate however many attendees might go. Probably someplace that has a significant bonsai club, and nursery/nurseries who may be willing to be sponsors. I'm sure there are a number of metropolitan areas that fit the description, but with my limited travel (especially since I really started pursuing my interest in bonsai), I have no idea which cities would qualify. I'm sure people would want to bring trees, but I also know that transporting them has a whole set of its own challenges. And it would be good to consider for which season it would best work. I really don't know what all would involved in planning something like that on any kind of scale.

I'm really surprised you don't make money here, @bonsainut! That makes me 10 x more thankful, as this site has become my bonsai club.

I always worry about clogging up your servers with pics of my sticks in pots. Does the constant uploading of pics cost you a lot in storage space?

It costs a fair amount - because I only have SSD storage in order to keep the site as fast as possible. But it seems to balance out. Storage keeps getting cheaper... bandwidth keeps getting cheaper... so they keep increasing the resolution of digital photography and videos :) I keep tweaking up the storage limits on threads, and resolution of photos.

Another!? You mean I've had more than one!? Nobody told me!
Yes you have. This thread on the Bonsainut origin story was all your idea. I like how it started out as almost an interview with @bonsainut and then evolved as some of the other old timers joined in to share their experiences on this site. Than you and them as well. 👍

I don't want to hijack your thread, but I am not sure where else to post this. It would be great if you and maybe some of the Arizona or Colorado members could make it. Albuquerque is usually pretty nice this time of year. The heat doesn't kick in until June.View attachment 592180View attachment 592180

You really start appreciating places like this when you are so far that is physically impossible to interact with people in person... but you still want to learn, ask and look for advise. I'm a white guy but living in Asia for last 12 years... probably never going back to "white world". Obviously there is tones of good bonsai stuff around here and that's the big benefit... but took me 3 years to be able to speak Chinese/Korean and probably going to take another few to get to the stage when I understand very nuances around bonsai. Bonsainut.com just keeps me going... really thankful to have place like this... not sure what I would do without it.

Am I supposed to be paying annual dues??? Send me an invoice, Greg... :-)))) The characters in this show are worth the price of admission!

I am very appreciative of your efforts but you could have made up a much better story :)
That's my boring story. I could talk about my time in the US military, airborne school and jumping out of airplanes, but there are no trees in it :)

so to keep the spirit of interview (which I think was initial intention)... what did you (@Bonsai Nut) do after jumping out of ariplanes and doing other funny stuff? ;)

Hear, hear! I have the utmost respect for those who have the courage to put their lives on the line in order to protect my rights and security.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I would be interested to hear about the pre- @Bonsai Nut back story that brought you to have the ability and know-how to create the forum.
