BONSAI IN ARIZONA??

Gosh folks. This thread was about prospective places to move and do bonsai. All ok

It now seems to have deteriorated into a “X” or Facebook rant about politics. Likely best NOT to carry it out there.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve served my country, for over 20 years all over the world and I’m entirely willing to chat about politics, lying politicians of all colors and the failings of the media face to face ,on the phone as long as one has the factual evidence. as OP knows…. I open to it in the proper venue… yet this kind of verbiage is what got the Teahouse closed down and drove many good BN folks elsewhere… something I absolutely do not wish to happen.

So my opinion, please put an end to this part of the topic on BN and find another forum dedicated to politics

Sincerely

Great post. I totally agree. If folks wish to share their unsolicited political opinions, there are plenty of places to do that.

This is supposed to be a forum where we can all come together and share our common love for bonsai.

You forgot to say "X (The site formerly known as twitter)"

And then someone suggested South Carolina. I checked out a little town in NW SC called Easley. Pretty amazing what one can buy a nice house there for compared to other places, and they get 50+ inches of rain per year so don't have to worry about that. I dono about that though, I live in Iowa for 6 years awhile back and it was like living on another planet. I swore I would never live East of the Rockies again.
I live 15 mins from Easley. I actually used to live there 10-12 years ago. I believe you'd align politically, there's no water issue (quantity or quality), and from what I know of housing prices, you'd probably find good value. Its very near Greenville, a regional hub, and it's very convenient to I-85 which will get you to Charlotte or Atlanta quickly too.

It's also worth noting that since this thread started the current water situation has improved in Arizona temporarily https://www.cpr.org/2023/08/15/colorado-river-water-cuts-rolled-back-wet-winter/

Some family friends have a home in Tucson and they have 10,000 gallon water tank they fill since they're not on city water. It means they're at the mercy of fluctuations in water prices when they get a delivery. I know he was also working on a rain caching system for his plants.

In Milwaukee we have lots and lots of water but brutal heartbreaking winters.

Very interesting article, thanks for sharing. I believe that this year was the rainiest year that Colorado has seen in quite some time. Seems the only certainty with climate change is unpredictability.

My wife and I are considering moving to a red State that is a bit warmer in the wintertime than where we live now. Only considering for now. Arizona comes up a lot in searches so we are looking and gathering info on that State now. We would rather live in a rural area closer to mountains and trees. Not sure Flagstaff would work as it is very expensive and weather close to ours in the winter. I also don't know about bonsai clubs in the State. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thank you!
I moved from coastal Calif to near Sedona. The heat, Sun and wind are very rough on the trees. The Phoenix Bonsai club website has articles that can be helpful

I like the mountains and trees too. We found a small community in a lil valley with two spring fed creeks near Cottonwood altho prices have risen
