So I received this large ficus along with two other large trees from the collection of a hobbyist who passed away. Two are ficus and one is a raintree - the other two trees are styled in a more upright traditional look that is easily continued but with this one I am super unfamiliar. What should I do? Nothing? Prune? A New Styling? any suggestions would be welcome - thanks.

If it were mine, I would be trying to fill in the canopy and maybe get something going on those long, straight, bare sections of trunk on the left. If it looks healthy I'd prune the foliage pretty hard and work on ramification that would fill in. I assume this is now staying outside in your location?

I would take it in a heartbeat. However, if you must keep it, bringing the growth in closer to the trunk is the goal.

cut the center out, root the branches. make shohin.

I was actually considering that with all of the branches. Can I do that? Will it come back from just the stump and cut branches? When should I do this and what would you recommend for the cuttings as far as medium.

assume the fine BRT you post from time to time was a part of this inherited collection?
