Best bonsai tool brand?

All great info! Perhaps it's cliché, but having bonsai products from Japan warms my belly smile. Seems like keeping a pair in good condition might be an asset form as well ✂️

I just started bonsai and was very overwhelmed by the array of Japanese brands and different tools, to start I ordered the all-in Amazon kit; but When my $80 dollar Amazon kit arrived I felt like the worlds biggest cheap skate, the quality is so appalling. Came on here to find some good suggestions. So funny that I’m not the only one who got the Amazon kit, I’m from Australia, anyone recommend any good finds in Sydney?

I'm super happy with a locally branded (generic chinese) stainless toolset that I got for about USD 90. I've been using them for about a year. I'm not particularly fuzzy about tool care but I have cleaned them with clorox wipes a couple of times, and they seem to be holding just fine. Not showing a cutter (one with a round head) because I have it stored somewhere, since I never use it (I only have small trees for now).

My most expensive tool is probably a pair of Wazakura tweezers, at USD 29. Never thought I'd pay that money for such a small tool, but I love them, they are super cute, and I've been using them a lot. Some more tools on the way, thought!

The wire cutters in this set are fairly useless I'm afraid. I only use them when I need the extra length for pressure, but for fine work they are worthless. I think I can fix them thought.

Of course, all of the bonsai-specific toys, erm, tools, are perfectly replaceable by stuff found in the tool section in home depot. But what is a hobby if not an excuse to get some toys? (*checking my Amazon order status*).

The only tools you really cant find an equivalent for at Home Depot or Lowes are concave branch cutters and knob cutters.

I've worked at one and am currently working at the other. This is pretty accurate. Depot also has Brussels and We Are the Bonsai Supply as signature brands available online. I've thought about getting some cheap pots that way just for convenience but I've seen the condition of things that arrive on trucks...

Only other thing I'll probably find elsewhere are a slightly nicer pair of fine detail scissors with a bit more extension. My eyes aren't what they once were and sometimes I have to be extra careful of collateral cuttings.
