Battle worn Exposed root Red maple

I started this tree in 2015 and it was actually starting to go somewhere but then as with most my other tree's, I lost my dad and most the tree's fell to ruin for a while. This tree has a long way to go and I'm debating a drastic change but for now I just need to get it ship shape and repotted - I've also been battling gloomy scale - So far I seem to have it on the back foot buy any advice would really help!

This would make a great cascade !

Secure the pot at an angle in a bigger pot this year.
Make the big chops to the current "apex" this summer. This will create lots of backbudding that you can wire out

Good video. Liked the “how not to do it” part - I have many times incorrectly interpreted properly demonstrated technique because I didn’t realize that what I was doing wasn’t really what was shown. Very helpful that you also pointed out the wrong way. Also liked the follow up of the work - very helpful to see what the work actually produces.
