Bald Cypress from cuttings

I read it all the way through this time Bill. I get your logic and I will try to do a flat top if I ever get a nice trunk to work with. That's how they look in your area and I get that. Just not everywhere.

Back on topic, one of the two cuttings in my previous post doesn't look good but the smaller one is hanging in there.
The ones stuck in the ground aren't doing much.
The ones showing life are in the pond but not a lot of roots sprouting.
I'm going to get another batch from the same tree later in the season to try again.


But these are just to yank your chain peace and love brother.

I was in Walt Disney World (which I hate) this past February for Mardi Gras break. While being shuttled about, I watched the bald cypress we were passing. I suddenly blurt out "I just solved my problem" and the tree was gone and I said nothing more. The tree I saw gave me an answer to a problem I'm having with my BC "Saint Kateri"'s branch placement. Three days later, my wife asks me what I meant when I blurted out "I just solved my problem". She doesn't know much about dendrology, but she's highly intelligent and was able to walk me through my thoughts to an exciting revelation about the mathematics of flat tops with respect to auxin distribution. I owe my understanding to her as much as the trees themselves.

I have:

Albizia lebbeck -Woman's Tongue tree

Thespesia populnea - Seaside Mahoe (I have TONS) I want to make these into bonsai so bad but I heard its pretty hard, I got 5 of them that are about 12 -15 inches high which i found with multiple branches. They sprouted everywhere after the hurricane. I've only seen one pre-bonsai at Wigert's (Link here) but its a Hibiscus tiliaceus , Sea Hibiscus - very close relative.

Delonix regia - Royal Poinciana (I have TONS)

Leucaena leucocephala - Lead tree or tropical mimosa

Vachellia farnesiana - Sweet Acacia

Sophora tomentosa - Necklace Pod Tree or shrub

Swietenia mahagoni - Mahogany

Small amount of Lignum Vitae - Guaiacum officinale

Cool, and when I send you the seeds, I will send you a replacement serissa or three. I have them growing all over the yard, several different varieties. Not trying to hijack the thread, but don't give up on your serissa, yet. I had large one, one of the nicer that I had, that did the same thing yours did. I even posted about it on my website, http://www.heartofdixiebonsai.com/c...ost/32-a-goodbye-for-an-old-friend?Itemid=101 , I set it aside, did a semi ground layer on it, and it came back this spring. I was gonna post a picture of it on your thread, but did not get around to it this past weekend.

What's a semi ground layer? And thanks man! A few serissa would be awesome. I haven't given up on it yet, I water it everyday and hope for the best...

Some of the roots were dead so I made some slots in the wood above them, threw on some rooting hormone, and raised the soil level to cover it all. We'll see if it worked next spring when I repot.

It'll be a YouTube video but much much later of at all. I'm on the wrong side of a parent's worst nightmare, so my free time is spent sorting out personal things, crying, or playing on my PS4 to keep my head busy. The trees are lucky I'm watering them much less fertilizing them. I try to get in the forums when I can.

The theory is pretty neat. I need to run it by a math professor at work. I want to get the terms right.

Should be the tree recommended for beginners, has to be defoliated monthly
as the leaves yellow every month down here.

Testing dark brown heartwood for lumber.

I have two of them plus a bunch of aeeds... very easy tree for. Thinner like me... I love them ..

Yes, Paul, say grow to 6 feet chop down to 2 or 3 inches.
As usual, prepare to experiment.
Check up the compost of this plant's leaves - NPK
do a Google.
