I got permission to collect Sagebrush at a construction site in Taos, NM the other day. The land is covered with them there. If it does well, I'll go back for some larger specimens. We're in our summer monsoon, so we're starting to get some good moisture and moderate temperatures.

Any updates? I just collected 2 in october and have my fingers crossed that they will pull through.

A couple of branches died (I think they drop branches very easily), but the tree’s alive! I’m giving it cold protection this first winter.

Sagebrush is best collected at the very first week of spring also get as much of the tap root as possible. Big deep pot for three years before cutting the tap root down. 1 out of 10 survive bonsai practice so best of luck to you.

This is not my experience in the slightest.

Also. Piñonj hasn’t been active on here in a while.

Well I dedicated all my time since 2018 on sagebrush and killed a bunch of them until I got it down. A few people said I should write a book on developing sagebrush as bonsai. Right now im juggling lots of things and I haven't fired up the old computer in three years. Im thinking of making a few care sheets for when Im ready to start selling my work.
Long project many years from now is one day opening up my own nursery.

That all sounds great. But I just think your suggestions are not on par with my experiences nor others I’ve spoke with and seen, which at this point are pretty extensive. So before you consider writing anything formal I’d imagine more trials are in order.

Very much appreciated, I'll take this with much consideration to write down my personal experiences in a journal. Explaining the right terminology isn't easy for me.

I've seemed to loose mine after repotting…l might just put the next few straight in a bonsai pot and leave it in there. As opposed to a box to recover.

Friends in my club have done ok with them though.

I had one awhile back and it was pretty much bulletproof….didn’t skip a beat during repotting or foliage pruning.
