Are These Weeds?

I'm new to bonsai, and I have been learning a lot and correcting the mistakes I initially made with my plant. It's becoming healthier looking, and as the tree has become greener, I've noticed sprouts appearing. Are they weeds? Should I remove them, and how do I do so without damaging the plant? I honestly don't even know how weeds would just appear in the controlled environment bonsais grow in. I'm afraid of pulling something that shouldn't be pulled and damaging the roots.

Any thoughts for a newbie like me?

Yes, those are weeds. Just pull them out but it's better to do it at the base of the weed so you can pull out the root system of the weed too. You won't be hurting the tree's roots if you're pulling out weeds, so the tree will be fine.

Anywhere seeds can fly, seedLINGS will eventually show up.. “weeds” is mostly just used to categorize unwanted and sometime aggressive growth... So usually try to identify everything..

For instance, at this current time, in my area (In my pots), I am finding lots of goosefoot, quassia, amarinth, willowherb, spurges and Wild Lettuce varieties.. these would be considered “weeds” to most.

Conversely, at this time, in my area (In my pots), I am ALSO finding a lot of Silver Birch, Black Willows (some others, too), Cottonwoods and Elms...

Thank you for the replies and the explanation! It's all very reassuring - I'll get them out! 😁

You are quite welcome!

Wiggle ‘Em first... this’ll give you an idea of how strong the root system is, and let you know if you will have to “dig in” (fingers) a little to properly extract the main rootmass..

I find that Anual and Biennial “weeds” have “beefier” rootsystems Than Perennial or Herb-classed “weeds”..

Take extra precautions to remove MOST if not ALL of any Rhizomatic (this car is.. 🤣) “reproducers” like “worts” or certain grasses.

The smaller one looks like Euphorbia though I think the genus may have been renamed Chamaesyce now. There is a couple of species that are weedy because they produce lots of seed really quick so are quite invasive. It will have milky sap.
Not sure about the 2 larger ones but always good to get rid of them before they seed and become a problem.
